Hayley Gundlach began working at PSG as an intern in the summer of 2013. Upon completing her internship, she was hired as an editorial assistant. Hayley recently began her senior year at Emerson College.
Hayley Gundlach’s dream jobs are to either become an editor at a large trade publisher or a consultant working on adapting books into films. Determined and studious, Hayley’s organizational and multi-tasking skills will definitely help propel her into her future career.
Hayley has already gained recognition for her skills as a copyeditor on Emerson College’s publishing club’s Spring 2013 novella, the mousetrap rose. Her name is credited on the back of the book, an achievement Hayley is quite proud of. By working at PSG, she hopes to gain as much knowledge about educational publishing as possible, and is ready to expand her repertoire as she prepares for a career in the publishing industry. From marketing to proofreading to blog writing, Hayley is ready to learn all of the skills the staff at PSG has to offer.
Not only does Hayley have talent within the publishing field, but her skills also expand to the musical world. When she’s not in class at Emerson, Hayley travels from one campus to another so that she can play the clarinet with the Boston College’s Symphonic Band. Hayley is also a member of BC’s marching band’s color guard, where she has performed in various parades including the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Parade. She saw people from all over the world cheer for BC and was within twenty-feet of President Obama. Hayley describes the experience as “pretty incredible” and remembers being “starstruck.”
In addition to her musical abilities, Hayley has the interesting talent of being able to answer almost any question about candy from her most recent job at Sugar Heaven, a candy store located across the street from the Boston Public Library. Not only did she learn all about the different assortments of candy, but after work she could take a bag of her favorites—gummy bears and Sour Patch cherries—and head over to the library to read.
Among her must-have books are A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks, which she reads every Christmas; The Giver by Lois Lowry; The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera; and anything by F. Scott Fitzgerald. But her mantra is by her favorite poet Robert Frost; it says “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.” This optimism, along with her organizational skills and eagerness to learn, make Hayley a great addition to the PSG team.
