Wandering among the shelves of a library or the panels of a museum exhibit, you might run into one of PSG’s newest interns: Marianna Sorensen. A recent graduate of Boston College with a bachelor of arts in English literature, Marianna is a self-proclaimed history buff looking to explore the world of publishing. She’s drawn primarily to copyediting and proofreading, but also wants to dip her toes into the other aspects of the industry to see which department is her best fit.

During her undergraduate career, Marianna was a research fellow for one of her professors, scouring through newspapers and other sources for information concerning female journalists at the turn of the twentieth century. Her passion for history didn’t stop there; Marianna is currently interning at the Jackson Homestead and Museum, a historic house in her hometown of Newton, Massachusetts. There, she researches local historic sites for walking tours, writes for the museum’s newsletters, and publicizes upcoming events through social media.

She’s definitely not new to the social media scene, either. Throughout last year, Marianna wrote weekly articles for College Magazine, an online and print publication detailing the ins and outs of college living, and publicized this work through Facebook and Twitter. She admits getting published made her feel famous, but promises to keep her ego in check!

Marianna feels just as at home in a library as in a museum, because she also works as a children’s library assistant at the Newton Free Library. She considers herself a shelving professional; no book will be misplaced under her care. Her passion for youth literacy and working with children in general (she also tutors children and teens for the library’s English Language Learning & Literacy program) make her an excellent fit for PSG.

Quiet but thoughtful, Marianna loves animals, National Geographic, Eric Larson books, and anything and everything to do with Sherlock Holmes. She looks forward to working with the kind and experienced staff here at PSG. Welcome, Marianna!
