Tess Renault joins the PSG internship program this fall after graduating from the College of the Holy Cross with a BA in English and a concentration in creative writing. Publishing has been an appealing career field to her for a while, but her interest in educational publishing is more recent. Last year, Tess spent the summer teaching young students who were struggling with writing, reading and comprehension, and this experience spurred her interest in the creation of educational materials. Her internship at PSG is her first real glimpse into the field and she is excited to work with the staff and learn about all the different aspects that go into publishing, particularly editorial elements and copyediting.

Being an English major, it is not too surprising that Tess is a self-proclaimed bibliophile. Some of of her literary favorites are Atonement, The Great Gatsby and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Anything by David Sedaris is also an immediate favorite. In her free time, Tess loves to travel—her college trip to Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania being her most memorable traveling experience. She also loves old movies and has a penchant for learning useless pop culture trivia.

In the future, Tess aims to continue her pursuit of a publishing career, hopefully becoming an editor some day. However, she also hopes to put her creative writing concentration to good use by trying to fulfill her childhood dream of being a published author. She thinks she’ll try to tackle the art of the short story first, before—hopefully—completing a novel someday.
