Common Core State Standards
Recently, The Council of Chief State School Officers and The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices committed states to a process to develop and adopt a common core of state standards for English language arts and mathematics for K-12. These standards will be rigorous in content and skills as well as internationally benchmarked. It will be interesting to see if this is a trend that moves on to the other disciplines.
In 2010, there will be a six-state adoption call for social studies. However, to date, there are no agreed-upon standards for social studies, so publishers will continue to customize social studies content for each individual state. Student editions, teacher editions, ancillaries, and assessment banks will continue to be individualized for each state.
PSG is prepared to customize social studies products to meet state requirements. Our team of social studies experts can provide content and assessment-item writing, correlations, and other customization services to help publishers meet the rigid timelines outlined by each of the six states.
